Simone's Rose is a womenswear label with contemporary styling. Eco-conscious, romantic and chic - the label was born out of designer Michelle Maynard's passion for her own brand of fashion and style with a conscience.
The mandate of Simone's Rose is to affect change by supporting and implementing sustainable and ecologically conscious business practices and projects internally, locally and across the globe. After all, it's all about having style – both in the way we dress and the way we affect people and the world around us! The label uses organic and fair trade fabrics, quality vintage textiles & trims, as well as deadstock or large company overstocks to keep within the company's mandate.
The use of organic, sustainable and vintage textiles lends itself well to the designer's aesthetic for clean and somewhat minimalist design - letting the fabrics create a presence of their own. Combined with great attention to construction and detail, the quality of each garment is evident in the label's collections.
Named after Michelle's grandmother - Simone's Rose represents the strength of Simone's spirit and her tenacity to get up in the morning when life was difficult to handle. Her strong spirit and kind heart will always be a true inspiration.
Simone's Rose is currently based in Toronto, Ontario (Canada).
Fashion Designer Michelle Maynard was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in 1972. She grew up in the small French community of St. Malo, Manitoba where she learned to cultivate her imagination and spent much of her high school years making clothes for herself and her peers. Michelle has come a long way since then, studying Apparel Design at the University of Manitoba, continuing her education in Fashion Design at Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario followed by many years of personal and industry experience that took her to several cities and countries.
This array of experience started with a trip back home to Winnipeg where she started her business 'Pyxus Apparel'. These years of training in custom design and dressmaking allowed Michelle to continuously work on perfecting her pattern making, draping and construction skills making her the designer she is today - focusing on attention to detail, fit and quality construction. After four years of trials and tribulations, it was time to change course. Restless and ready to take on a new challenge, she packed her bags for Montreal, Quebec where she quickly found employment in the fashion industry.
Michelle settled into work at a Montreal denim brand in 2005, quickly working her way up from Assistant Designer to Head Designer. Her tenacity and entrepreneurial spirit shone through as she introduced and brought to fruition many new product lines for the company while continuing to grow the brand with added collections and quantities each season. Her time at the company also took her to many places such as China, Japan, Europe and the United States where she gained invaluable knowledge and inspiration.
Environmental consciousness coupled with visions of a new venture led Michelle to eventually leave the company and create her new label "Simone's Rose". Having been a vegetarian for over 20 years and an individual conscious of the environment, it was evident this was the path to follow. Michelle is now working on building her business and creating next season's collection. Hoping to inspire future generations, she also teaches young and aspiring fashion designers the basics of sewing and helps them create their own garments at a local sewing school.
